Traditional Buddhist Wedding in Nepal
Overview
These marriages have special characteristics as well. In Nepal, Buddhist weddings are austere events that emphasize marriage rites. Weddings are typically large events, and occasionally entire villages are invited, along with many extended family.
Buddhists get married at monasteries. Both the bride and groom dress traditionally, and the wedding is solemnized by the Lama (monk) doing the traditional puja (worship). The ceremony is given a mystical touch when the butter lamps are lit at the monastery on the day of the wedding. The event has a calming, mystical atmosphere that is enhanced by traditional music.
