A Visionary Father and a Pioneer of Nepal’s Trekking Industry
Some men walk the mountains; others build the path for generations to follow. Krishna Mainali is one of those rare trailblazers. As the guiding force behind Everest Summit Treks and Expedition, he is not only a pioneer of Nepal’s camping trek industry but also an inspiration, mentor, and architect of a legacy that continues to shape the world of Himalayan adventure tourism.
With his humility, kindness, and unwavering resilience, Krishna Mainali has touched the lives of many, leaving behind a story that goes beyond his success it is a story of sacrifice, passion, and paving the way for others to rise.
Humble Beginnings in the Heart of the Himalayas.
Born in the Himalayan region of Kavre, Nepal, Krishna Mainali grew up in an environment where the mountains were more than just landscapes, they were a way of life. But the road to making a name in Nepal’s trekking industry was not an easy one.
His journey into the world of trekking began in the 1980s, when, as a young teenage boy, he took his first steps into the high-altitude world as a Sherpa for a Manaslu expedition. A teenager full of passion and raw strength, he embraced the challenges of the mountains with an unyielding determination that would later define his career.
Rising Through Hardship: The Era of Camping Treks
In those early years, Nepal’s trekking landscape was vastly different from today. There were no teahouses, no modern trails, and no easy routes only fully organized camping treks, where every necessity had to be carried, set up, and managed manually.
As Krishna continued his journey, he took on roles as an assistant chef and cook, serving expedition groups from Britain, Germany, and France. Cooking in the unforgiving Himalayan wilderness was no ordinary task fires had to be lit in extreme conditions, food had to be preserved without proper storage, and every meal had to provide strength for the climbers battling the brutal high-altitude terrain.
Despite the hardships, Krishna mastered the art of expedition cooking and soon worked his way up to becoming the head chef for international trekking groups.
But his journey was not just about food it was about resilience, leadership, and becoming a crucial part of Nepal’s growing trekking industry. Reflecting on his years of struggle, Krishna often says,
“The pain of becoming and the pleasure within those were the nectars I tasted.”
These words embody the hardships he endured, the wisdom he gained, and the legacy he would soon build.
The Legacy Continues: Inspiring His Sons and the Next Generation
By the early 2000s, after decades of experience in Nepal’s trekking industry, Krishna Mainali saw the potential of the evolving adventure tourism sector. With deep knowledge of the trails and an unmatched understanding of Himalayan expeditions, he knew that it was time to pass on his wisdom.
It was then that he introduced his sons, Raju and Keshab Mainali, to the field, training them from the ground up just as he had once learned through hard work, perseverance, and respect for the mountains.
But Krishna’s vision extended beyond just his own family. He saw a greater purpose: to empower and guide young aspiring trekking professionals who sought to build a future in this industry. He became a mentor, a leader, and a father figure to countless individuals who looked up to him for guidance.
Through his influence and selfless contributions, he shaped the careers of many trekking guides, porters, and entrepreneurs, helping them find their place in Nepal’s mountaineering and tourism sector.
Everest Summit Treks and Expedition: A Dream Realized
With Krishna Mainali’s wisdom, experience, and blessings, his son Raju Mainali went on to establish Everest Summit Treks and Expedition a company that reflects the values, traditions, and resilience that Krishna spent a lifetime building.
But Everest Summit Treks and Expedition is not just a business, it is the continuation of a legacy. Every trek, every summit, and every journey undertaken through this company carries with it the spirit of a man who once walked the same paths with nothing but a dream in his heart.
A Legacy That Lives On
Today, when trekkers set foot on the trails of Everest, Annapurna, Manaslu, and beyond, they unknowingly walk in the footsteps of Krishna Mainali the man who paved the way for the very adventure they now experience.
His journey is proof that success is not just about personal achievement but about lifting others, sharing knowledge, and creating opportunities for future generations.
Through his son Raju, through Everest Summit Treks and Expedition, and through the countless lives he has inspired, his legacy remains alive forever intertwined with the spirit of the Himalayas.
For Those Who Dream to Follow
For those who dare to dream, Krishna Mainali’s journey serves as a beacon of inspiration.
For those who seek a path in the trekking world, his footsteps have already carved the way.
For those who love the mountains, his story will always echo through the Himalayas.
He did not just climb mountains he built a future upon them.
Mr. Raju Mainali Founder and managing director of “Everest Summit Treks and Expedition” is a passionate tourism entrepreneur. A tourism professional who has a wide perspective on life is open-minded, and a lively human being. Not a new player in the field of tourism, he has seen and gone through the old-school way of tourism to the modern-day industry. He has roots in this field from the early age of his life, as his biggest inspiration and learning is his Father.
Coming from the Kavre district of Nepal, geographically a hilly region he has spent his childhood in the hills and highlands of the region. Obtaining schooling from his hometown to pursue further higher studies in Kathmandu and learning further skills and education there. Despite wandering here and there to understand what to pursue in life, he has served as a Teacher, and social worker in his hometown in early adulthood. However, throughout this time and process in his life, he was witnessing tourism in his home from his father already which later became his biggest source of motivation to come into Tourism. As his father was already a camping leader and organizing trekking in the early 80s, he noticed how his father was not only leading the camping trek but also providing jobs/opportunities to many people around the village. This is where Mr. Raju got his first realization, he saw tourism as not only a means of a profession but a way of life where he can serve and have a positive impact on people’s lives around him. From that time onwards he decides to get into this field and start working to understand tourism from the ground level.
Fully motivated and energized he took his steps and began to work as a porter guide, slowly upgrading himself as a guide. Over this period he has obtained all the necessary experiences, skills, and expertise in the tourism industry. Humility can be seen in the way he serves clients, organizes and understands the needs, present-day market necessities, and safety aspects to treat/lead his client and team as one big family. “Everest Summit Treks and Expedition” is his dream changed into reality to pursue his serving nature for the better & bigger picture of the Travel Industry.
