Trip Introduction of Chulu West Peak Climbing

One of the activities offered there is climbing Chulu West Peak, one of the most beautiful and unexplored summits in the Annapurna region of the Himalayas. At 6419 meters and 21055 feet, it is the most magnificent. It provides climbers who value a technical battle with an unforgettable experience by fusing challenging climbing with picturesque trekking. It is a singular encounter.

The trip begins with a car traveling through the picturesque cities of Basishar and Kathmandu. Prior to the climb, there will be a typical trip through the fascinating Marsyangdi Valley. The climbers traverse the Himalayas via forests, rivers, terraced fields, and old school communities before arriving at their destination. An acclimatization area with stunning views of many massive summits and peaks, including Manaslu, Annapurna II, and Annapurna 4, is located prior to the last stop. Climbers must get ready before the hike. At roughly 4800 meters, the last destination is the Chulu West Base Camp.

Chulu West Peak Climbing would be one of the first peaks climbed if climbers are experienced in mountain climbing and know how to utilize the equipment, which includes crampons, ice axes, and climbing ropes, among other things. Base Camp is followed by acclimatization before the difficult final ascent, which begins at High Base Camp. It involves halting at treacherous spots and rough mountain slopes with steep snow. As a result, the last ascent calls for talent, perseverance, and a worthwhile challenge.

When a mountaineer sees peaks like Annapurna I, Dhaulagiri, and Machapuchare, together with miles of white-tipped mountains far from the top of the earth, his heart is filled with wonder and astonishment. The world appears to be a white sea after climbing, with the shoreline formed by white mountain peaks. As if returning after a vacation in the Himalayas, the climber takes the same route back to Base Camp, lower elevation, and Kathmandu.

Mountaineering, a few challenges, culture, and, of course, the most breathtaking and unadulterated views of the Himalayas are the icing on the cake for the Chulu West Peak climbing package.

How does this journey start?

The climbers complete the necessary paperwork, equipment, and briefings in Kathmandu, the bustling metropolis of Nepal and the starting location for Chulu West Peak. The journey continues with a scenic drive to Besisahar, the starting point of the Annapurna range, after Kathmandu. This is the beginning of a long, serene, and fulfilling trek through the breathtaking Marsyangdi Valley. In order to go closer to Chulu West Base Camp in the center of the Himalayas, the trail winds past a number of charming towns, thick forests, and river valleys.

Highlights of Chulu West Peak Climbing

  • Admire breathtaking 360-degree views of the Himalayas from the top of Chulu West summit, which rises to a height of 6419 meters.
  • Professional climbing guides are available to help with the first part of the hike, which is a simpler, non-technical ascent appropriate for novices.
  • Trek the Annapurna Circuit through picturesque villages and landscapes.
  • Discover Thorong La Pass, one of the world’s highest passes at 5416 meters.
  • Enjoy safe acclimatization at Manang, which will increase the success rates at the peak.
  • Experience the various nuances of Himalayan culture by going to the Muktinath Temple.
  • The fully funded excursion includes all permits.

Day 5: Acclimatisation Day & Ice Lake Hike ( 6420m ) Duration 6-7 hours

Since you will be climbing Chulu West Peak for 14 days, today will be an acclimatization day in the picturesque high-altitude village of Manang. Following a hearty breakfast, we will stroll slowly to the stunning Ice Lake, also known as Kicho Tal.

We will be rewarded with views of the numerous mountains that tower over the village of Manang as we ascend from Manang to Braga. A high-altitude lunch will be served in a stunning, tranquil, and immaculate Ice Lake following three hours of hiking.

We will probably spend the final days of our Manang vacation learning about the various cultures of the world in the monasteries and among the hospitable locals.

Given the difficulties of our upcoming 14-day ascent of Chulu West Peak, this day of high altitude acclimatization is essential.

Today, we will begin our trip at a moderate incline across alpine terrain, passing beneath a cool pine grove. We will be able to enjoy the expansive vistas of the several mountains we will be traversing as we walk.

After that, we will go to the village of Ghunsang, which has a charming teahouse and a stunning view of the surrounding mountains. We will have a lunch break here. We will cross a bridge and travel to Yak Kharka following our break. A peaceful neighborhood with a community that is well-known for its expansive flatlands where sheep and yaks graze

We will cross a tiny glacier stream to round out the day. We shall proceed to Ledar after crossing the brook. We will eat dinner in Ledar and spend the night there to recuperate for the exciting days ahead.

Day 7: Trek to Base Camp ( 4900m ) from Ledar Duration 4-5 hours

We will reach the base camp of Chulu West Peak today. This particular climb should not be too difficult or complex, even if we will need to gain some elevation. The ascent will necessitate a cautious and methodical approach because we will be gaining 700m of height and acclimating to the altitude in the thin air at base camp. We are traversing rough, uneven, glacial terrain, so please take your time. Doing so will need careful attention to detail and safe footing.

We will reach the base camp, which offers a breathtaking perspective of the vast Annapurna range, in the next four to five hours. In addition to setting up the tents, our crew will be preparing the hot meals for us to eat if they have not already been completed.

During this time, our climbing guide will teach us how to use crampons, an ice axe, and a jumar. Additionally, he will instruct us on how to use climbing ropes for both ascent and descent.

Day 8: Trek to High Camp ( 5595m ) from Base Camp Duration 4-5 hours

Today is the first day of our 14-day Chulu West Peak climbing trip, which will take us to High Camp, which is over 5,000 meters above sea level. Trekking poles, crampons, ropes, and ice axes are necessary for the rough, glacial route. To ensure our safety, our guide will be erecting ropes along the route’s steep sections.

At 5,100 meters, we will cross Camp L. Here, some climbers take a break so that their bodies can adjust to the greater elevation and recuperate before continuing on to High Camp or attempting to reach the summit the following day. But we are not going to stop here. Since the ascent to the summit is simpler after Camp II, also known as High Camp, we will be moving on.

We will be erecting our tents and enjoying a substantial lunch at High Camp. Additionally, we will practice using the climbing equipment we will be using to reach the summit for a while. This is crucial so that we can be prepared and assured for the upcoming ascent.

Detail information about the trip

Trip Information of Chulu West Peak Climbing

The Best Time to Climb Chulu West Peak

The climbing seasons on Chulu West Peak are spring (March to May) and fall (September to November). There are greater chances for pleasant, stable weather throughout these months and less likelihood of precipitation. Therefore, now is the ideal time of year to ascend Chulu West.

Winter ascents are still possible with considerable care and preparation, even if the highest slopes are covered in hard ice and the temperature is very low.

Significant midsummer rainfall in the Annapurna region raises the possibility of landslides and hazardous roads. Due to its location in a rain shadow, the Mustang region receives extremely little rain, even during the monsoon. We do not advise climbing the Chulu West in the summer or during the rains.

Distance and Elevation

Our Chulu West Peak climbing tour begins at Syanje, 130 kilometers from Nepal’s capital, at an elevation of 1100 meters. Chulu West, which stands at 6419 meters, is the ultimate objective. Many seasoned climbers who have already ascended the Chulu East claim that the Chulu West is more beautiful than the Eastern one.

Climbing Chulu West Peak typically takes 13 to 14 days, though this can change depending on the route used. At 5595 meters above sea level, High Camp is the highest elevation where we will spend the night.

Walking Maximum and Minimum

Our 14-day Chulu West Peak climbing program consists of 10 days of hiking and 1 day of peak climbing. Over the course of eleven days, we walk an average of fifteen to twenty kilometers per day for six to seven hours.

However, the duration may vary based on our daily schedule due to the variable terrain, climate, and trekker capability. We will hike for at least three to four hours on the seventh day of the trip from Manang to Ledar. A quick hike has been thoughtfully planned to enhance acclimatization before approaching the base camp.

We hike the furthest to reach the summit on the climbing day, of course. It takes nine to ten hours to reach the summit and descend to High Camp.

Difficulty of Chulu West Peak Climbing

The weather and altitude make ascending Chulu West Peak challenging, especially if you decide to do it in the winter, even if it is a moderate, non-technical snow climb with no technical issues. The glacial terrain, snowy trails, and ice slopes make the ascent dangerous. However, if we are appropriately taught, equipped, acclimated, and stay on course, our journey is safe. The PD/3 category includes the conventional routes to Chulu West.

Can a beginner climb Chulu West?

From the standpoint of professional mountaineering, anyone who is physically fit can ascend Chulu West. If you have the determination, lead a healthy lifestyle, and do not have any serious chronic ailments, you can join our expedition. If you are new, make sure you choose fall for a relatively easy walk and more success.

Training and preparation

Starting a jog at the park, at the gym, or on the road is a simple way to get ready to climb Chulu West Peak. It would be ideal to start running for 30 minutes three times a week three months before the climb. Change to 1.5–2 hours of workout, or about 10 km, during the last three weeks.

If you follow this simple exercise regimen, your cardiovascular and respiratory systems will get toned, your leg muscles will get better, and your endurance will quickly rise to a good level.

Alternative ways for climbing Chulu West Peak

You can add the Tilicho Base Camp walk and Tilicho Lake trip to your Chulu West climbing expedition for an extra challenge and adventure. You can go from Manang to Tilicho Lake and base camp for a few days in order to accomplish this. After that, get back to Manang and trek to Ledar in order to attack the Chulu West Peak.

Alternatively, if you are in Jomsom, you can hike the Annapurna circuit trail on your way back after reversing the traditional route and climbing Chulu West Peak.

Climbing Chulu West Peak with Altitude Sickness

On the fifth day of our trip, you will be at an elevation of over 3000 meters, which puts you at risk for altitude sickness. Nonetheless, we have planned our program so that you will spend the night at a high altitude, allowing your body to fully acclimate.

However, take Diamox and let our advisor know if you get headaches, nausea, lightheadedness, or trouble breathing or sleeping. You can go to a lower elevation and delay your program for a day or two. The secret to avoiding altitude sickness is to stay hydrated by drinking lots of water and taking breaks between hikes.

Meals, Drinks, and Transportation

On the day of your arrival and departure in Kathmandu, we provide airport pickup and drop-off services. Depending on the size of the group, we take a bus or jeep to Syanje at the beginning of the hiking trip. We will take a short domestic flight to Pokhara as part of our return trip.

In terms of food and beverages, we provide a substantial breakfast each morning while visiting Kathmandu. Everest Summit Treks and Expedition will supply breakfast, lunch, and dinner from the lodge menu system during the hike, as well as tea and fresh fruit following dinner.

The primary dishes are Dal, Vat, and Tarkari; the secondary dishes are porridge, egg, momos, chowmen, Thukpa, and pizza.

Our crew will build up tents during the base camp stay and ascent. Three times a day, they will make hot meals with tea, coffee, and boiling water.

Internet/wifi, device charging, and communication

The Namaste (NTC) and Ncell networks function fairly well for mobile internet and communication throughout the trekking period. There might not be any service during the ascension phase from the base camps.

Nearly all tea rooms and lodges provide WiFi, albeit depending on the amount of users, the service may be poor. In the lodges, you may also charge your gadgets. You may have to pay more money for the service.

Chulu West Peak Climbing Permits

The Chulu West Climbing expedition requires a climbing permit from the Nepal Mountaineering Association in addition to a permit from the Annapurna Conservation Area Project. We will be in charge of these permissions, and the service price is part of our program.

Insurance for travel

Every climber should have sufficient travel insurance for the duration of the Chulu West Peak ascent. Accidents, altitude sickness, and weather fluctuations are all made more likely by the high altitude. Climbing insurance for high passes and trekking, along with other high altitude insurance coverage, should be tailored for various mountaineering activities above 6,500 meters. Emergency helicopter evacuations from remote areas, treatment for altitude sickness, injuries, trip cancellation insurance, and insurance against illness, weather cancellations, and natural disasters should all be covered by these policies.

The most popular insurance firms create specialty insurance coverage for climbing and Himalayan hiking. Climbers are encouraged to get insurance before arriving in Nepal to make cross-country travel and expeditions easier. Climbers can focus on the task at hand and the fun experience while having peace of mind about safety thanks to the right insurance.
