Alternative Treks for Langtang Gosaikunda
Did this trip too drawn out? It is okay! Let us examine the other trekking options.
The Langtang Valley Trek is the primary choice. It is a lovely 10-day trip that does not include a stop at Gosaikunda Lake. You can more thoroughly and pleasantly explore the valley on the trip.
The second is the Tamang Heritage Trek. During this 12-day culturally diverse adventure, you can fully immerse yourself in Tamang customs and cultures. This is a good option if you want to go on a walk with a cultural focus.
Additionally, you can research the Helambu Trek. You will get away from the tourist route and establish a peaceful connection with nature throughout the nine-day trek. You will have a genuine cultural experience along this lesser-known route in the Langtang area.
Our trekking packages are all top-notch and provide a variety of experiences. We guarantee that your trip to Nepal will be the most memorable vacation of your life, regardless of the package you select.
Altitude Sickness/ AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness)
Most people who are not used to going to high altitudes and who also exert themselves a lot during the Langtang Valley and Gosaikunda Trek can often be the victim of AMS. The altitude sickness or the AMS can occur from 3000 m and with the right precautions, it will be only mild and temporary in most cases. The symptoms of altitude sickness should therefore absolutely not be ignored.
If you happen to feel somewhat weak, shortness of breath during exertion, headache, constipation/diarrhea, flatulence, nausea, poor sleep, dizziness, and slight swelling of hands, feet, and face, this means you are going through mild AMS. In such a case, you should take it easy and get enough (night) rest. Sometimes, our guide may decide to take you down by 500 to 1000 m where your symptoms can sometimes disappear completely. Then you can try to climb again after a few days of rest. Regarding the prevention of AMS, you should always make a slow and phased climb. We have paid attention to adequate acclimatization so we have placed a rest day at Kyanjin Gompa followed by the short walking hours till we make it to the Pass.
When hiking, we suggest you always walk calmly, without getting out of breath, and drink water, tea, soup, and broth, but no alcohol. Also, breathe deeply and completely. You can also ingest Diamox (acetazolamide), a diuretic, which can help with altitude adjustment and reduces symptoms of altitude sickness by 50%.
Transportation
We have efficient transportation service during the entire time of the Langtang Valley and Gosaikunda Trek 16 day journey. You will have comfortable rides in private cars, vans, or buses (according to the group arrival size) for your transfers between TIA and your hotel. A drive to Syabru Besi at the beginning of the journey and a drive from Melamchi to Kathmandu at the end of the trek will occur on a local bus. For added comfort, you can also consider our upgrade options for a private jeep transfer.
Travel Insurance
Langtang Valley and Gosaikunda Trek 16 day trek does not include travel insurance in Nepal. You need to purchase it yourself. If you don’t know good travel insurance companies, our tour company, Everest Summit Treks and Expedition, will also help you select the right option that covers all the required risks and needs while traveling.
You are required to have travel insurance compulsorily. Your insurance will cover your extra possible expenses, such as accidents, injuries, treatment, medical expenses, emergency helicopter rescue, theft, damages, etc., that can ruin your trekking experience completely. This travel insurance will enhance your trekking experience without making you worry about potential unexpected additional expenses.

Does the Langtang Gosainkunda hike offer any locations or viewpoints with breathtaking views?
You will encounter many locations or points of view during this walk if you follow our suggested itinerary. Nonetheless, the following locations offer some of the most breathtaking views:
Cherko Ri (5050m): Because of its more difficult ascent, trekkers frequently ignore this viewpoint. On a clear day, it offers one of Langtang’s most impressive mountain views, including Shishapangma (8,027m).
Kyanjin Ri (4,400m): From here, you may enjoy breathtaking sweeping views of Kinsung, Changbu, the Langtang Lirung, the Langtang glacier, and other snow-capped mountains.

The vista is enhanced by the Rhododendron trees that blossom in the spring and cover the trail leading to the Laurebina.
Lauribina La pass (4,610m): If you choose not to ascend Cherko Ri, you will reach the highest point of the hike at Lauribina La pass (4,610m). The only pass you cross during the entire journey is Lauribina Pass. This location offers a breathtaking view of Gosainkunda Lake, which blends in with the surrounding Himalayan peaks.
Which river starts from Gosaikunda?
The Trishuli River rises from Gosaikunda Lake. The waters of Gosaikunda and the neighboring Naukunda wetlands are the source of the Trishuli River. This river, which flows through several areas and joins the Gandaki River system, is a significant watercourse in Nepal. This river is essential to the local ecosystems and communities, as it is fed in large part by the pristine and revered Gosaikunda Lake.
What is the myth behind Gosaikunda Lake?
Legends abound around Gosaikunda Lake. Lord Shiva is credited with creating the lake. After consuming poison, he dug into a mountain with his trident and extracted water to clear his throat. Many people believe that the enormous rock beside the lake is a sacred shrine of Shiva. For pilgrims who are Buddhist or Hindu, the lake is revered.
Are permits necessary?
Yes, a Langtang National Park entry permit is required for the Gangja La Pass Trek. A TIMS (Trekkers’ Information Management System) card is also required if you intend to hike past Kyangjin Gompa. These permits are available at the park gate in Dhunche or Syabrubesi, or in Kathmandu.
Does the hike require a guide?
It is highly recommended to have an experienced guide because the Gangja La Pass Trek is quite difficult. A guide can guarantee your safety during the pass crossing, help with navigation, and prevent altitude sickness.
