Trip Introduction of Lobuche peak climbing with EBC trek

Lobuche peak climbing with EBC trek is an exciting mountain journey for adrenaline lovers in the Khumbu region. It is much more complicated than the classical treks of Nepal, like the Annapurna Base Camp and Everest Base Camp.

This trip combines the ultimate trek to Everest Base Camp and Lobuche Peak in a single journey, offering visitors an extraordinary lifetime experience. You will trek on the off-beaten path while navigating Lobuche Peak in Nepal’s Everest region. There are two peaks in Lobuche: Lobuche East, which we are going to climb, and Lobuche Far East, which is 26 meters lower than Lobuche East. Lobuche Peak climbing with Everest base camp journey is regarded as more demanding than Island Peak and Mera Peak. Climbers must have prior experience and mountaineering skills to navigate treacherous rocky terrain, snow, and steep ascents. It will test your mental and physical endurance while ascending the Lobuche Peak.

Pushing yourself to your limits, you must overcome all the exposed ridges and icy slopes using mountaineering gear such as ropes, ice axes, and crampons. This is what makes this expedition unforgettable. All your hard work will pay off, offering magical, inspiring views throughout this 17-day Lobuche peak climbing adventure. The expedition starts as your flight lands in Lukla from Nepal’s lively city, Kathmandu. Your trek commences gently, passing through lush green jungles and several Sherpa settlements toward the Phakding village of the Khumbu region. After that, you will walk to Namche Bazaar with an acclimatization day to get your body used to higher elevations.

You will traverse other popular settlements in the Everest region along the way, such as Tengboche, Dingboche, Lobuche, and Gorak Shep, before reaching EBC with a peaceful overnight stay. On the side trips, you will have the opportunity to explore Hotel Everest View and Chukkung Valley. The initial goal of this 17-day Lobuche Peak climbing expedition is to reach the marvelous Everest Base Camp, where you can see the lovely landscapes and spectacular vistas of snow-clad majestic peaks. After that, your next challenging quest is to reach Kala Patthar, where you will be rewarded with splendid golden sun rays of the sunrise shining over the Himalayas.

The real challenge is to summit the Lobuche Peak, 6119 meters or 20,075 feet above sea level. Upon reaching the top of the summit, you will eyewitness the jaw-dropping 360° view of the Himalayas, with Everest, Cho Oyu, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Pumori, Nuptse, and others standing tall around you. After all your hard-climbing work, conquering the summit will feel like a crucial achievement and an actual moment of Triumph. Moreover, you will gain deep insights into Sherpa culture and its excellent hospitality, which makes this journey an experience of a lifetime. Prepare yourself and embrace the call of a mountaineering adventure that is truly priceless.

Day 12: Summit Day of Lobuche Peak and then hike to Pheriche (4371 m)

Height of Lobuche Peak: 6119 m/ 20075 ft

Duration of walk: 7 to 10 hours

Trek Distance: 10-12 km/ 6-7.5 miles

However, when hiking in the higher altitudes of Nepal, like this 17-day Lobuche Peak climbing with EBC trek itinerary expedition, it is best to select the seasons with stable weather, especially when climbing to the peak, to ensure a safe journey. Following are the different seasons explained below for this expedition:

Spring: This is one of the correct times to embark on the Lobuche Peak climbing with EBC trek expedition. The stable weather provides unobstructed views of breathtaking landscapes and snow-covered majestic peaks. Similarly, nature will be at its peak, with blooming flowers and plants throughout the jungle in the Khumbu region. This season, the temperature is usually 20°C to 25°C on sunny days, while at night, the temperature drops to -15°C, significantly above 4000 meters destinations. Apart from this, the Everest region’s trail comes to life with many trekkers and climbers from different crannies worldwide.

Autumn or Fall: This season is another good time for the 17-day Lobuche Peak climbing with EBC trek. It runs from the end of September to November, and the weather is typically clear and blue, offering stunning panoramas of every landscape. During this season, the temperature is around 20°C on sunny days and -15°C at night, above 4000 meters. One of the significant benefits of traveling in this season is that you get to celebrate the major festivals of Nepal with the local Sherpa people, making the trekking experience more memorable and extraordinary.

Monsoon or Rainy: This season is not the right time for the Lobuche Peak Climbing with EBC due to the high risks of rainfall, causing accidents due to slippery trails and landslides in the hilly areas. You can expect a temperature of 30°C on clear days and -5°C at night above 4000 meters. Another detriment of this season is that the big dark clouds obstruct the views of the mountains. You will not be able to enjoy the awe-inspiring vistas of mountains, same as in the autumn or spring season. Despite these reasons, if you want to travel this season, you should have the right gear to trek safely in the Everest region.

Winter: Only a few trekkers prefer to travel during this season due to the peaceful trails. However, we do not recommend planning the 17-day Lobuche Peak climbing with EBC trek expedition in winter, especially when you are climbing the Lobuche Peak at 6119 meters above sea level. The temperature can drop to -20°C at night above 4,000 meters.

The weather can also be unpredictable in higher elevations, which challenges while climbing the peak. This is not an everyday trekking journey like others for traveling in winter. The journey can be dangerous when climbing to the peak due to the able weather, which creates avalanches and heavy snowfalls.

b)Elevation and distance

On this Lobuche Peak climbing with EBC trek for 17 days expedition adventure, you will reach from 1324 meters to 61119 meters with almost a gain of 5000 meters from where you start the journey. When you first step foot in the Khumbu region, you will stand at a height of 2860 meters in Lukla, serving as the starting point of the trek. From Lukla, you will pass through several Sherpa villages like Namche Bazaar at 3340 meters, Tengboche at 3860 meters, Dingboche at 4410 meters, and Lobuche at 4940 meters with a gain of elevation from 400 to 500 meters each day. Similarly, Everest Base Camp sits at an altitude of 5364 meters, and Kala Patthar sits at 5545 meters, where you can enjoy the 360-degree panoramas of jaw-dropping Himalayas.

The most challenging part of the journey is where you will be climbing to the highest at 6119 meters or 20,075 feet above sea level when summiting the Lobuche East Peak. Therefore, it is necessary to carry oxygen cylinders and use mountaineering gear when climbing Lobuche Peak to avoid acute mountain sickness. Similarly, the total distance you will cover on this 17-day Lobuche Peak climbing with EBC trek adventure is 110 to 116 kilometers (68-72 miles) in 75 to 85 hours. Without including acclimatization days, you will trek around 100-103 km (62-64 miles) for a total trekking of 65 to 75 hours in these 12 days of trekking.

From Lobuche High Camp, you will trek 3 to 4 km (2 to 2.5 miles) in a round trip to summit the Lobuche Peak. You will need to trek 33 to 34 kilometers (20.5 to 21 miles) when returning from Pheriche to Lukla on this Lobuche Peak climbing with EBC trek adventure.

c)Difficulty and altitude sickness

Lobuche Peak climbing with EBC trek expedition is far more challenging than other regular trekking excursions in Nepal. This expedition consists of steep ascents and high-altitude trekking above 5000 meters and requires some mountaineering skills and experience. Similarly, this adventure requires you to walk for an average of five to six hours every day, which can be difficult for novices and those with low fitness levels. Following the climb to Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar, this adventure becomes more difficult, rocky, and arduous, beginning at Lobuche Village. The most challenging day of this Lobuche Peak climbing with EBC trek adventure is summiting Lobuche Peak at 6119 meters. Without mountaineering gear, one cannot ascend the summit. This climb will test a climber’s limits and strength. It can also break the spirit of individuals with a weak mindset and fear of taking risks.

Another risk when trekking above 4000 meters is suffering from different types of altitude sickness, such as high-altitude cerebral edema (HACE), acute mountain sickness (AMS), and high-altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE), which can be life-threatening if not treated in time. One will have symptoms like nausea or loss of appetite, chest tightness, fatigue, severe headache, dizziness, coughing with pink, frothy mucus, hallucinations, confusion, and so on. You should not get behind in seeking expert help to get treated in time. You should also care for your fellow trekkers, looking out for each other to avoid altitude sickness.

d) Maximum and minimum walk per day

On this Lobuche Peak climbing with EBC trek adventure, the least number of hours you will be trekking is four to five hours on day 2 and day 11 when you trek from Lukla to Phakding after landing in Tenzing Hillary airstrip and from Lobuche Village to Lobuche High Camp (5400 m). On day 4, you will also walk from three to five hours in a round trip when you visit the Everest View Hotel.  The average trek per day will be five to six hours on most of your trekking days during the Lobuche Peak climbing with EBC trek expedition. The maximum hour you will trek is going to be seven to 10 hours when you summit Lobuche Peak from Lobuche High Camp, followed by a return to Pheriche for an overnight stay.

e) Accommodation, Food and Drink

Everest Summit Treks will reserve your room in a standard-sharing hotel in Kathmandu before you arrive in Nepal. This hotel will have all the amenities to ensure your comfortable stay. You don’t have to worry about anything regarding your stay in Nepal on this Lobuche Peak climbing with EBC trek adventure for 17 days. If you want a more luxurious hotel, you can upgrade your standard hotel to a three-star hotel like Hotel Manang and Hotel Thamel Park for 45 dollars per night, a four-star hotel like Hotel Yatri Suits, Hotel Ramada, and others for 95 dollars per night, or a five-star hotel like Hotel Yak & Yeti and Hotel Radisson for 150 dollars per night.

After arriving in the Everest region, you will stay in a mountain tea house. There are also some luxurious lodges in the Everest region that you can upgrade from the regular tea house. You can stay at Yeti Mountain Home in Lukla, Phakding, and Namche, where luxurious services will be provided. However, when you trek higher, you will only find tea houses where essential services are provided, offering you a bed, cushion, and a blanket to sleep the night. Even though you want to upgrade your accommodation, you will not be able to do that due to the high-altitude remote location in the Khumbu region. The teahouses offer the most common food menu options, such as porridge, pancakes, chapati with curry, daal bhat (rice, lentil soup, vegetables, pickles), pasta, Sherpa stew, momos, pizza, and boiled potatoes, which will give you a lot of energy while embarking on your journey.

Similarly, in the drink options, tea houses provide tea (ginger, honey, regular, lemon, mint, milk, etc.), masala tea, coffee, hot chocolate, fresh fruit juice (in lower altitude), soft drinks, Tibetan-style fermented beer, local millet wine, beer, and so on. However, you will have to pay cash for the drinks yourself. Finally, we recommend eating foods such as dal bhat, garlic soup, boiled potatoes, hot lemon tea, pancakes, noodles, etc. These are the best foods for high-altitude trekking and climbing.

f) Trip Preparation and Fitness

If you are planning to embark on a 17-day Lobuche Peak climbing with Everest base camp adventure, your priority must be preparation and being fit to have a sage and enjoyable trekking experience of a lifetime. Trekking each day for a minimum of five to six hours is not a joke. To prepare for trekking in the high-altitude destinations in the Khumbu region, you must train your body in every possible way. Simple exercises like cycling, swimming, and running can help build strength and endurance.

If you are a beginner and don’t have any experience climbing, it is better to learn basic climbing skills to handle technical sections at the peak of some institutions in your country. Another critical thing to do before thinking about the summit of Lobuche Peak is to do a complete body check-up to avoid respiratory issues while trekking. Another key aspect of preparing for this expedition is choosing the right insurance company that covers emergency evacuations, medical expenses, theft, loss, and other risks to ensure a safe travel experience in the mountains, especially where the weather is unpredictable. You should also pack the proper trekking and mountaineering gear.

g)Gadgets charging and Internet

On this Lobuche Peak climbing with Everest Base Camp journey, you can recharge your electronic gadgets daily. Almost all guest houses and lodges have plug points, but remember that they probably will charge you a small maintenance fee for the power supply, a little more than a dollar.

Another way to maintain communication is by using the internet at the teahouses where you have a place to stay. However, there might be a small charge for using the internet. But it is not guaranteed that the internet service will be stable, especially in teahouses located in high-elevation areas. It is better you keep extra money, about 20 to 30 dollars per day, to use when needed while trekking.

h)Transportation

Everest Summit Treks covers all your transportation costs for the ground and sky. Our company provides private vehicle services during your inward and outward time. However, if you prefer to travel luxuriously, we can arrange a helicopter charter flight to Lukla from Kathmandu or vice versa, adding additional cost to your Lobuche Peak climbing with EBC trek package. Moreover, if you have an additional visa left in Nepal, we can arrange a private vehicle for you to sightsee the Kathmandu Valley. All your transportation services are customizable according to your preference and stay in Nepal.
