Camping (Tents)Trip Introduction of North Annapurna Base Camp 9 Days
The North Annapurna Base Camp Trek program begins with a drive from Pokhara to Humkhola. Approximately 115 kilometers will be driven in 6–7 hours. The voyage starts in Humkhola and ends there. You will come across trees on stone-paved roads, a waterfall, and a natural stream along the hike.
Four Nights, Five Days The Annapurna North Base Camp Trek passes past Panchakunda Lake, Sandikharka, Gurase Danda, Gupha Phat, and the Busket Mela before arriving at Base Camp. When you go to North ABC, the serene, blue Narchyang (Panchakunda Lake) makes you happy.
Get the all-season packing checklist before you don your boots for the North ABC adventure.
The highest point is much lower than the Mardi Himal Trek at 4,190 meters. You will cover the most ground—roughly 11 km—on the fourth day of the trip. The climb from the campsite to the Annapurna North Base Camp will take six hours.
The less popular Annapurna North Base Camp Trek is also known as the Maurice Herzog Trail. It is a less-traveled and more pristine trekking path in the Annapurna Circuit. For those looking for other routes in the Annapurna region, this trip offers a fantastic adventure experience that is both distinctive and incredibly exhilarating.
This route was explored in 2019 by the Annapurna Rural Municipality (ARM) group. By contacting different organizations, travel agencies, and individual hikers, Nepal’s trekking associations—including the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP), the Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN), locals, and the Ministry of Tourism—are attempting to promote this iconic trek route. Information on the trek may be found in the North Annapurna Base Camp Trek itinerary.
Note: The North Annapurna Base Camp route does have teahouses, but you should not rely solely on them.

Early in the morning, we will load into the tourist bus and make an exciting journey to Pokhara. Traveling along the extreme Kathmandu road through the noise and traffic, we will leave Kalanki and then ascend the 2250 m high Thankot Pass.
After traveling down from the Pass, the wide open road of Prithvi Highway will take us to the very busy Trishuli Market right next to the Trishuli River.
As we keep going, the smooth Mugling-Narayanghat Highway will now lead our way and direct us to the beautiful little Newari town of Bandipur. As we travel further, the beautiful silhouettes of Fishtail, the five Annapurna summits, Dhaulagiri, Langtang, Manaslu, and Ganesh will begin to appear in the distance. Up above the small hill, we can also see the Manakamana Temple of Goddess Durga. Eventually, the sparkling clear waters of Begnas and Rupa can be seen hinting we are in Pokhara – a wonderful valley located on the banks of Phewa Lake, also known as the Best resort in the world

3 star HotelDay 3: Drive from Pokhara to Tatopani to Humkhola (2890 m) Duration for 6-7 hours
We will drive to Hum Khola following our hotel breakfast. After passing via Kande, Nayapul, Kusma, Parbat, and other places, the drive first leads us to Baglung. With a few exceptions, the route from Pokhara to Baglung is generally decent. After three hours of driving from Pokhara, we arrive in Baglung. It takes longer to go to Hum Khola because the road after Baglung is completely off-road. We drive to Tatopani after passing via Beni. Here at Tatopani, we shall eat lunch.
We take in the view of the steep valleys as we travel toward Hum Khola after Tatopani. There are hydropower tunnels, lots of trucks and dozers on the building site, and many of garages because hydropower projects are being carried out here. As we cross the Kali Gandaki River on a bridge, we will also be able to take in the breathtaking beauty as it flows through valleys. We will arrive at the Hum Khola after six hours of traveling from Pokhara, which takes two hours from Tatopani. The single teahouse here is a modest, simple one, and it is the last stop on motorable roads. We can not even sleep at this tea house because it is so basic. We can acquire some supplies here, though, if we fail to pack some from Pokhara. A massive water reservoir is visible, and a hydropower office keeps track of the project’s development.
We set up our tents and prepare our dinner. Spend the night at Hum Khola.

Camping TentsDay 4: Trek from Humkhola to Busket Mela (3650 m) Duration 5-6 hours
We will begin our second day of the North Annapurna Base Camp Trek after breakfast. We will hike gently to reduce the risk of altitude sickness because Busket Mela is approximately 3,650 meters (11,975 feet) above sea level. We will arrive at Futfutey, a spectacular waterfall, after an hour of hiking. We shall pause here to take in the splendor of this immaculate waterfall. We will continue walking to Sandikharka, a shelter set about halfway down the trail. Here, we savor our munchies and relax.
After an additional hour of hiking, we arrive at Ghupaphant, another shelter. Between the cliffs, we can see Tilicho Peak from here. From here, we hike for another hour to reach Busket Mela. We hike for six hours before arriving at Busket Mela. We need power banks to charge our phones because we can not obtain energy from here. Additionally, there are no connectivity networks or signals during the hike from Hum Khola to Busket Mela; however, there are two shelters at Busket Mela that are close to where we will set up our tents. We take filtering tablets as soon as we arrive at the neighboring river, which provides drinking water, so that we can consume it more quickly. Here, we will set up our tents and cook.

Camping TentsDay 5: Trek from Busket Mela to Campsite (4050m) Duration 4-5 hours
The calming sound of running water will wake you up in the morning by the river. We had breakfast and then headed to the campsite. There are rugged pathways and towering rock formations along the 4190-meter trekking route from Busket Mela to the Campsite.
We take a break, rehydrate, and then hike after we reach a higher elevation. We will encounter numerous waterfalls and tiny streams along the way throughout our four hours of hiking. As we continue walking, we can make out the sign pointing to SunKhola, also known as the River of Gold because of the golden hues of the stones that can be discovered there. After more hiking, we arrive at the 4050-meter Campsite. Although it is only a 30-minute hike to the 4190-meter North Annapurna Base tent, there are no overnight shelters, so we set up tent at the Panchakunda Lake Campsite. We set up our tent, make dinner, and spend the night at the campsite.

It is a well-known lake among pilgrims who are Buddhist and Hindu. You may experience this natural lake in its purest form without any human interference because it is pristine and turquoise blue.

Detail information about the trip
Short History of the North Annapurna Base Camp
Maurice Herzog’s expedition team became the first climbers to reach the summit of Mount Annapurna on June 3, 1950. Additionally, it was the first time climbers had ascended an 8000-meter peak. Because of this background, the Maurice Herzog trail is another name for the route leading to Annapurna North Base Camp.
Another name for it is the French North Face route. following the French team’s first-ever ascent of Mount Annapurna I, during which they also investigated the Annapurna’s North Face.
The trail is still among the least traveled, making it an ideal place for a solo hike.
Trekkers are becoming more and more interested in the North Annapurna Base Camp trip. As a result, aside from North ABC, simple teahouses are constructed on the main paths for lodging. A few years ago, this was not the case. The camp had to be relied upon. One cannot, however, depend entirely on the accommodation. Before you leave for the walk, it is advised that you gather information from the travel agent.
Annapurna Conservation Area Permit
An Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) and a Trekkers’ Information Management System (TIMS) Card are required for entry into North Annapurna Base Camp.
1. Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP)
Cost for Non-SAARC: NPR 3,000 (approx. USD 25)
Cost for SAARC Nationals: NPR 1,000
2. Trekkers’ Information Management System (TIMS) Card
Cost for Independent Trekkers: NPR 2,000 (approx. USD 17)
Cost for Trekkers through Agencies: NPR 1,000
Is a Restricted Area Permit required, similar to the Upper Mustang Trek? No, you do not need a special or restricted area pass to enter the breathtaking North ABC. This does not apply to any banned zones.
Difficulty to North Annapurna Base Camp
The moderately challenging Annapurna North Base Camp excursion is situated in Annapurna Rural Municipality, ward no. 4 Narchayng, Myagdi District, Gandaki Province, Nepal. Many hikers are able to finish this trip since it lacks dangerous spots and intricate pathways. The base camp routes have a moderate climb at 4,190 meters above sea level. Because of this steady elevation gain, trekkers are better able to adjust to the altitude.
The journey is made easier by hanging bridges, such as the one in the Nilgiri River, which eliminate the need for challenging river crossings. The presence of these bridges also contributes to the trek’s overall moderate difficulty rating.
Despite the walk’s difficulty, it is important to keep in mind that it is a camping trek. Although the journey is rather straightforward, there are not many basic services along the way because camping is required. Trekkers should prepare for fewer conveniences and get used to live in more primitive conditions during the journey.
The effects of higher elevations, long walking days, and the challenges of sleeping in remote areas with limited amenities should still be anticipated by trekkers.
Accommodation on North Annapurna Base Camp Trek.
There are not any teahouses along the route that provide lodging. At Humkhola, there is a simple hut called Dharamshala, although it is not ideal for overnight stays and is somewhat rudimentary. To go back to Narchyang village, trekkers have to camp the whole way. This implies that for the majority of the hike, you will need camping gear and food.
The Cultural Significance and History of Narchyang Lake
Narchyang Lake, also known as Pancha Kunda, is situated at an incredible 4,050 meters above sea level. This incredible natural treasure varies with the seasons. In the summer, it is a serene lake, and in the winter, its surface is completely frozen.
This high-altitude lake holds considerable spiritual significance for both the Buddhist and Hindu communities. The Shiva temple that was constructed near its beach serves as evidence of its spiritual significance. Because of its importance as the river’s source, many people view the lake as a hallowed body of water.
For the Janai Purnima ceremony, hundreds of pilgrims gather at Narchyang Lake every year. This long-standing tradition emphasizes the lake’s cultural significance. The popular idea that soaking in the lake’s waters can atone for sins adds to its ethereal beauty.
Narchyang Lake’s dual nature—its physical change with the seasons and its spiritual significance—makes it a unique and captivating destination for both trekkers and pilgrims.
Annapurna Conservation Area’s flora and fauna
The 7,629-square-kilometer Annapurna Conservation Area is a hotspot for biodiversity that showcases Nepal’s rich natural history. This vast protected area is reported to support 101 different animal species and 1,226 different types of plants and orchids.
As trekkers ascend more than 1,500 meters, they arrive at a location where the diversity of nature is truly on display. The animal kingdom is symbolized by magnificent creatures such as the Himalayan brown bear, the elusive snow leopard, and the nimble leopard cat. Other notable species are bharal (blue sheep), gray wolves, wild rabbits, and langurs. Among the colorful birds that brighten the skies are the Impeyan pheasant, the crimson horned pheasant, and several vulture species.
The plant life’s diversity and beauty are equally astounding. Hikers will come across woodlands of juniper, oak, pine, rhododendron, and magnolia. Bamboo groves add to the richness of the scenery. Priceless medicinal plants including PaanchAaunle, Bhojo, Chirato, and the well-known caterpillar fungus (Yarsagumba) are also well-known in this region.
Trekking in the Annapurna region allows you to see these magnificent plants and animals. The changing flora and fauna at different elevations vividly show the region’s unique ecosystems and their importance to local people and biodiversity globally.
