3 Star HotelTrip Introduction of Himlung Expedition
Trip Overview
We kindly invite you to embark with us on the incredible Himlung journey, a peak that few people know about and a place of immense significance. The roughly month-long Himlung expedition has all you need for a high-altitude walk and mountain ascent.
Himlung Expedition is a breathtaking mountain with untamed rivers, beautiful streams, waterfalls, fir and pine forests, and high-altitude paths covered in snow all year round. All of this will be visible to you on our month-long Himlung journey. You will make enduring memories of your trip and learn about the fascinating world of high-mountain environment.
Himlung Peak is located near the Chinese border in the Manaslu region of northern Nepal, between the two towering Himalayan peaks of Annapurna and Manaslu. The elevation is 7126 meters above sea level. Himlung is just as spectacular as the two neighboring 7,000-meter summits, Nemjung 7,140 m and Himjung 7,096 m.
The summit offers impressive views of Annapurna II, III, IV, Manaslu, Lamjung Himal, and Dhaulagiri in addition to the stunning views of the Tibetan highlands.
The Himlung adventure is a relatively new destination for mountain climbers, especially when it comes to commercial adventures. In 1992, a Japanese team ascended Himlung Himal for the first time.
It is regarded as a secure location, and there is very little chance of unforeseen dangers while on the Himlung excursion. Himlung is a great training peak before an expedition to 8,000-meter summits, including Mount Everest, even though it may be a personal struggle.
We will take the standard route up Himlung Peak, passing over the northwest ridge completely covered in snow and ice. There are no passageways for rock climbing. To reach the summit, though, you must go a considerable distance at a great altitude. Strong physical fitness, a sense of teamwork, and ideal equipment are the fundamental prerequisites.
A portion of the traditional Annapurna circuit route is traversed on the way to the peak before entering the desolate and unspoiled Nar Phu Khola Valley. You will pass numerous Mani Walls, travel through isolated Tibetan villages, and progressively ascend. The terrain gets more alpine with each increase in altitude.
Three high camps with a stunning alpine path lead from the base camp at 4,900 meters to the summit, where exposed portions are secured with fixed ropes. Himlung Peak offers reserve days and a very high likelihood of success.
Your Himlung trip will be accompanied by our knowledgeable tour guides and a Nepalese Sherpa. Our program is predicated on a seamless and excellent acclimatization, which will reduce the risk of altitude sickness and increase your chances of success. During your camp stays, you will also receive technical instruction, which is necessary for a successful ascent.

Detail information about the trip
Himlung Expedition for 28 days Ultimate Adventure with Everest Summit Treks & Expedition
The Himlung Expedition provides a thrilling and fulfilling climbing experience for anyone looking for adventure and prepared to travel through Nepal’s pristine Nar Phu Valley. At 7,126 meters (23,379 feet) above sea level, Himlung Himal gives you an up-close look at the splendor of the Himalayas. All the information you require about the Himlung Expedition, such as the 28-day itinerary, costs, permits, and more.
How does our journey begin?
We start our Himlung journey by driving from Kathmandu to Besisahar, which is located roughly 190 kilometers west of Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. We will travel even farther to the settlement of Koto, from whence our caravan will begin walking for a few days until we arrive at Himlung’s main camp.
We will set up three high camps, Camp I, II, and III, at elevations of 5,450, 6,000, and 6,350 meters, further from the base camp. On the day of the summit, we will then ascend to the top and descend to the base camp before returning to Kathmandu.
Location Himlung Himal
Himlung Himal is situated in the breathtaking Nar Phu Valley, Manang District, northwest Nepal, close to the Tibetan border. It offers breathtaking views of Manaslu, Annapurna II, and other tall peaks.
Climbing Routes of the Himlung Expedition
The North Ridge and Northeast Face are difficult climbs that call for exceptional technical expertise, whereas the Southwest Ridge route is the most popular. Your knowledgeable guides at Everest Summit Treks & Expedition will assist you in selecting the route that is most appropriate for your skill level.
Best Time for the Himlung Expedition
The ideal times to participate in the Himlung adventure are in the fall (September, October, and November) and spring (March, April, and May). Stable weather with pleasant temperatures, bright days, windless conditions, and nighttime lows of 0°C is what we can anticipate. You may see breathtaking views and interact with a variety of stunning animals from Annapurna and the Nar Phu Valley on the trek that leads to the peak.
The trail from the three High Camps is extremely dangerous and difficult to navigate during the winter months of December, January, and February due to the high snowfall. There is a risk of landslides and severe rainfall throughout the summer months of June, July, and August.
Duration for Himlung Expedition 28 Days
The entire 28-day Himlung Expedition usually takes four or five weeks, including a lot of time for acclimatization, recuperation, and climbing. The weather, climbers’ skill levels, and the state of the mountain can all affect the time.
Elevation and Distance
The Himlung Himal is the best mountain to climb to a 7000-meter peak using a glacier path that is technically relatively simple. It is located in the northern region of Nepal and is 7126 meters above sea level. This magnificent Himalaya is 150 kilometers away from the capital, whereas Mount Manaslu, which is eight thousand meters high, is only 25 kilometers away.
Besisahar, which is located roughly 190 kilometers west of Kathmandu, is typically thought of as the center of the Himlung expedition. From Kathmandu, the travel to Besisahar takes around six to seven hours. But Koto, which is around 65.6 km away, is where the hiking trip begins.
Cultural Insights on this Expedition
Discover the Nar Phu Valley’s rich Tibetan Buddhist culture. Visit monasteries, interact with local cultures, and fully immerse yourself in the local way of life.
Acclimatization and Difficulty
Alpinists who like to experience their first seven-thousand-meter climb and be ready for a future Everest trip should head to Himlung Peak. The high-altitude trekking experience is essential, but the mountain is not very technically challenging and does not require climbing experience.
However, because of its height, the cold, and the potential for inclement weather, Himlung Peak should not be undervalued. Even with a full backpack and after several hours of trekking, you should be in excellent physical condition and be able to safely ascend snow slopes with crampons up to an inclination of about 45 degrees.
You must be able to walk on the glacier using ropes because you will be moving primarily on glaciers from the advanced base camp (Camp I). Additionally, you should be ready for camp life in a tent.
You will hike from base camp to Camp I and back, then proceed to Camp I and Camp II the next day before returning to Camp I once more during your stay at Base and High Camp. Until you are adequately acclimated to the high altitude atmosphere, our guide may allow you to perform this procedure repeatedly. This will guarantee that your mission to reach the tip of Himlung is accomplished.
Preparation, training, and equipment
We advise you to begin a rigorous training program as soon as possible in order to get ready for the Himlung adventure. To prepare the body for the anticipated stress, systematic training should start at least six months before to the start of the endeavor. Running, trekking, cycling, and, of course, mountaineering are the best sports. You can begin by ascending simple 5000-meter mountains before moving on to 6000-meter peaks in Nepal or your hometown.
The weekly units should contain, for instance, two units of intensive training lasting 30 to 45 minutes and two units of comprehensive training lasting 60 to 75 minutes, in addition to your preparation mountain visits. Additionally, going to the gym or performing strength and endurance exercises like squats, push-ups, and sit-ups does not harm you.
One month prior to the adventure, please avoid endurance exercises and switch to a tone-maintaining activity (swimming pool, walking along the path). Ten days before to the adventure, cease all sporting activities.
The best climbing equipment, including crampons, ice axes, ropes, harnesses, helmets, and weather-appropriate clothing, is required to reach the summit of Himlung Himal. Climbing safely requires equipment and preparation.
Altitude Sickness and Safety Measures
The Himlung Expedition places a high premium on safety. Climbers need to pay attention to their guide and heed their advise, stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, and eat healthily. In order to maintain their physical fitness while climbing, mountaineers get periodic medical examinations.
Our daily schedule for the Himlung adventure has been carefully planned with your safety and appropriate acclimatization as top priorities. However, altitude sickness and the high mountains themselves can always be challenging.
Anyone who engages in high-altitude trekking and mountain climbing may get the syndrome, regardless of their level of training, experience, or preparation. Although the severity varies from person to person, we have primarily observed climbers experiencing lesser symptoms such headache, nausea, sleep deprivation, vertigo, and appetite loss.
It seems that as you continue on your tour, your body will adjust to the high altitude. Therefore, these symptoms will go away on their own, but you can take half or one pill of Diamox for immediate relief.
In order to avoid altitude sickness, we urge our clients to focus on being hydrated by consuming plenty of water, garlic soup, ginger, honey, and lemon tea.
Transportation, Meals, and Drinks
Private transportation will be used for all airport pickup and drop-off services from and to TIA. When traveling from Kathmandu to Koto and back, a jeep transfer will be utilized. Prior to the Himlung excursion, a special private sightseeing trip of Kathmandu will be arranged for you.
In Kathmandu, we provide breakfast and three meals: breakfast, lunch, and supper. During the trek and climbing expedition, we serve any type of tea or coffee, and every day after dinner, we serve fresh fruits that are in season.
You do not absolutely need to bring anything extra because drinks and snacks like chocolate, cookies, bars, etc. are available almost everywhere in the villages in the Annapurna region or along the Annapurna Trail. However, only authentic Tibetan and Nepali foods may be available in the isolated Nar Phu Valley.
Our company will supply all essential tents, a kitchen, a dining area, a toilet tent, a staff cook, and helpers when camping. During your stay in Base and High camps, you are entitled to unlimited meals, tea/coffee, and hot water. You will also be packed a lunch for the trail if necessary.
Communication, Gadgets charging, and Internet/Wi-Fi
For communication, we advise you to use NCELL or NTC, the local cellular operators. The Annapurna and Nar Phu regions are well-served by both networks. Our crew will use the Ready Set to be in regular contact with the rescue service and with each other during the climbing phase.
On the lower Annapurna trail, there can be a free WiFi connection. The WIFI service can stop being free as the trail gets higher, and lodge owners might charge a small fee per person or per hour.
For an additional fee, you can recharge your devices (such as your phone, camera batteries, power bank, etc.) at the same lodges. There is a charging station in both the base and advanced camps.
Sherpa Guides for Himlung Himal Expedition
The Himlung Expedition relies heavily on seasoned guides and Sherpas who offer crucial assistance and knowledge all along the way. Throughout the trip, our Everest Summit Treks & Expedition crew offers safety, technical assistance, and climber counseling.
Permits for the Himlung Expedition
The required permits will be obtained on your behalf by our Operator guide, and the service fee is covered by the cost of our program. The Himlung Expedition requires the Nar Phu Valley special permit, the climbing permit, and the project permits for the Annapurna Conservation Area (ACAP).
Himlung Himal Base Camp
At 4,900 meters (16,076 feet) above sea level, the Himlung Himal Base Camp serves as a place for mountaineers to rest, acclimate, and get ready before ascending to the summit. The base camp offers basic amenities like dining areas, tents, and communication devices.
Most people ask about the trip - FAQs
What will be the accommodation during Himlung expedition?
The accommodations in Kathmandu will be in a double room with a private bathroom and shower at a nice, three-star hotel. Accommodations for the adventure in the Annapurna region will be double rooms in well-equipped lodges. Every lodge has a communal restroom and a shower. We will move to double-occupancy tents for lodging during the adventure. Every piece of high-camp gear is included.
What peaks should I climb before climbing Himlung?
The 6000-meter-tall mountains, such as Island Peak, Lobuche Peak, Mera Peak, Chulu West, or Pisang Peak, can be climbed first. You may conquer Himlung Peak with ease once you have gained expertise climbing these summits.
Who will accompany me on this trip?
Our Himlung trip will be overseen by our skilled, licensed climbing guide. Along with our kitchen crew, you will travel with a capable Sherpa assistant (one porter for two trekkers). Every member of our staff is acquainted with the region and has typically ascended Himlung. They receive enough training, insurance, and compensation.
What type of insurance should I take out for the Himlung expedition?
You must have specific expedition insurance that covers search and rescue expenses in order to take part in the Himlung trip. Please confirm that isolated areas and altitudes higher than 6000 meters are covered by your insurance. We also strongly advise you to get insurance to cover the expense of migration in the event of an illness or accident, as well as travel cancellation insurance. In order to meet foreign deductibles, we also advise purchasing international travel health insurance.
What is altitude of Himlung Himal Base Camp?
The Himlung Himal Base Camp is situated at an elevation of roughly 4,900 meters (16,076 feet). This camp serves as a place to relax, acclimate, and practice using climbing equipment. Three additional camps are needed for the summit, and we set up Camp I at 5,450 meters (17,882 feet), Camp II at 5,900 meters (19,357 feet), and Camp III at 6,210 meters (20,382 feet) from the summit.
How can I prevent AMS, if possible? And, any treatment available?
Altitude sickness can be made more likely by certain illnesses (like respiratory diseases) or drugs (like sleeping medicines). Before you rise to altitude, it is crucial that you let us or your guide know about any medical issues or drugs. You can lessen the chance of altitude sickness and aid in your body’s acclimatization.
Can people with medical conditions climb Himlung Himal?
Climbers with certain medical conditions should exercise caution because Himlung Himal is a physically demanding high-altitude climb. If you have a history of altitude sickness, severe asthma, high blood pressure, or long-term heart or lung problems, you should consult your doctor and obtain medical clearance before attempting the climb. You will have more time to adjust, be ready for physical activity, and—most importantly—be open and honest with us about your health issues in advance.
